"Eau Claire County History, 1949" History of Porter School Area The
district we live in was
once a part of Pleasant Valley. On November 5, 1873, they
held a
meeting to divide the property. They assessed the value of
our district
as $125.00.
The first school meeting of our district #4, was held at the home of W. H. Todd, now the home of the late Tony Freideck. The meeting was held Wednesday, November 12, 1873. The first officers of our school were: Clerk, L. B. Foster for one year, director, Delos Granger for two years, and treasurer, Thomas Bonell for three years. School was to be held in a building owned by Mr. Todd, three months in the fall and three months in the spring. On July 17, 1876, a special meeting was held to locate and decide on building a school house 16 x 24 ft. with 10 ft. studdings. They decided to borrow $200 and to use the $66.83 in the district fund if necessary. The Building Committee consisted of: Wm. H. Todd, Delos Granger, A. Grant and Thomas Bonell. On December 12, 1876, they held their 2nd special meeting to change the location of the school house to the S. W. Corner of the N. W. quarter of the S. E. quarter of Section three, just north of what is now Harry Sheeder's house. They voted to build immediately. The held another special meeting October 27, 1884. |
