"Eau Claire County History, 1949" History of Oak Grove School Area The Oak Grove School district in the town of Drammen is one of the oldest in the county. The settlers in that community were chiefly of Scandinavian descent. The school building was originally a one-room structure and in the early days was also used as meeting place for the Norwegian Lutheran Congregation there. A cemetery was started near the school grounds. Some years later a church was build about a mile and a half west of the school and many of the bodies were moved to the new location also. The schoolroom eventually became too small for the growing community, another room was added to the building and it became a two-room state graded school with two teachers serving the district. But the enrollment began to dwindle and it again became so small that only one room is needed as there were only about twelve pupils there a few years back. There are several farm homes vacant in that community as the soil is quite light and many of the people have sought work in the cities. |
