"History of Northern Wisconsin, 1881" Public Schools (-as transcribed from page 309) The schools of the city are well up to the times, although the district system, on account of local interests, is still maintained. There are three districts, one in each division of the city, with six school buildings, and one leased. The number of school children is 2,500, and of this number 80 per cent attend school. The schools are graded, and in the absence of a common high school, the higher branches are taught in each of the districts. The number of teachers are thirty.
