The following is a guide to the streets and avenues of the city of Eau Claire, to be used in connection with the 1884 Eau Claire City Directory of citizens and businesses of that city.

  • AGNES -- runs north from Highland avenue, between Isabel and Chapin.
  • ALTOONA AVENUE -- runs east from Chauncey, first avenue north of Sherwin.
  • AMELIA -- runs from the Chippewa river to Second avenue, four squares north of Bridge.
  • ANN -- runs from the Chippewa river to Second avenue, next south of Bridge.
  • ASH -- is five north of Platt, and runs west from Sixth.
  • AURELIA -- runs north from Chappel to Dennison.
  • BABCOCK -- is the second west of Mappa, and runs from Chestnut to Platt.
  • BALCOM -- commences at Chippewa, and runs north to the Chippewa river, next east of North.
  • BARLAND -- commences at Talmadge, next south of Main.
  • BARSTOW -- east side, is next east of River and runs south from Eau Claire river to Washington.
  • BARSTOW -- north side, is third east of River, and runs north from the Eau Claire river.
  • BEECH -- is next south of Randall (formerly Elm).
  • BELLEVUE -- runs east and west, one north of Madison.
  • BELLINGER -- is next west of Mappa, and runs north from Chestnut to Platt.
  • BENCH -- in Westville or Shawtown, runs west from Menomonee.
  • BIRCH -- is in the first ward, next north of Division.
  • BOLLES -- Bolles & Mead's addition, west of the river and next north of C St P M & O Ry track.
  • BRIDGE -- runs from the Chippewa river west to Half Moon Lake, nearly in line with Kelsey.
  • BROADWAY -- is three squares south of Bridge.
  • BULLEN -- Westville or Shawtown, is next west of Menomonee.
  • CAMERON -- is two north of Randall.
  • CASS -- is next east of Talmadge, and runs north from Emery.
  • CATHERINE -- runs from the Chippewa river to Second avenue, two squares north of Bridge.
  • CEDAR -- is four north of Platt.
  • CENTRAL -- runs from Second avenue to Third avenue, next north of Bridge.
  • CENTRE -- is in the First ward, second east of Balcom.
  • CHAPIN -- runs north from Highland avenue, first west of Agnes.
  • CHAPMAN -- commences at Washington between Dewey and Doty and runs south.
  • CHAPPEL -- runs south from Bartlett, one west of Robinson.
  • CHARLES -- is four squares west of Mappa, and runs north from Randall to Platt.
  • CHAUNCEY -- runs north from Highland avenue to Altoona avenue, first west of Roderick.
  • CHESTNUT -- is four squares north of Bridge and runs west from Mill to Half Moon lake.
  • CHIPPEWA -- is five squares south of Bridge.
  • CHURCH -- runs from Bridge to Lake, next west of Third avenue.

  • DOTY -- is third east of Barstow.
  • EARL -- fifth south of Main.
  • EAST -- in Westville or Shawtown, runs north from Union.

  • EDITH -- runs north from Chappell to Denison, West Eau Claire.
  • EIGHTH -- is the eighth west of Mappa, and runs north from Platt.
  • EIGHTH AVENUE -- runs south from Lake to the Chippewa River.
  • ELIZABETH -- runs from the Chippewa River to Second avenue, next north of Bridge.
  • ELM -- is three north of Madison, and runs east from the Chippewa River.
  • EMERY -- fourth south of Main.
  • ERIN -- is next east of Putnam avenue, and runs north from Division.
  • FARWELL -- east side, is next east of Barstow.
  • FARWELL -- north side, is the fourth east of River, and runs north from Galloway.
  • FERRY -- runs east and west of Randall to city limits, Shawtown.
  • FIFTH -- is five squares west of Mappa, and runs north from Platt.
  • FIFTH AVENUE -- runs from the Chippewa River north to Chestnut.
  • FIRST -- is next west of Mappa, and runs north from Platt.
  • FIRST AVENUE -- runs southerly from Mill and Randall next to the Chippewa River.
  • FLORENCE -- south of Bartlett, west of George, East Eau Claire.
  • FOREST -- is next east of River, and runs north from Galloway.
  • FOURTH -- is four squares west of Mappa, and runs north from Platt.
  • FOURTH AVENUE -- runs south from Lake to the Chippewa River.
  • FRANKLIN -- third east of Putnam avenue.
  • FULTON -- is three squares north of Bridge, and runs southwesterly from the Chippewa River to Mill, thence west to Half Moon Lake.
  • GALLOWAY -- is next north of the Eau Claire River.
  • GARFIELD AVENUE -- runs east and west, one south of Lincoln avenue.
  • GEORGE -- runs south of Bartlett.
  • GERMANIA -- is the second east of Putnam avenue.
  • GIBSON -- second south of the Eau Claire River.
  • GILBERT AVENUE -- commences at the Chippewa River and runs southeast to the foot of Farwell.

  • MAIN -- fourth south of Eau Claire River.
  • MAPLE -- two north of Platt.
  • MAPPA -- next west of Mill, runs north from Chestnut to Maple.
  • MARGARET -- runs north from Highland avenue, between Lee and Isabel east and west, Sherwin & Barland's addition.
  • MARKET -- next to Chippewa River, runs from Seventh avenue to Ninth avenue.
  • MARSTON COURT -- runs west from South Farwell, next south of Washington.
  • MAXON -- one south of Platt.
  • McDONOUGH -- runs north and south, one east of Bellevue avenue, Eau Claire Lumber Company's seventh addition.
  • McGRAW -- runs north and south between Prospect and Barland, between Summer and Winter east and west, Eau Claire Lumber Company's sixth addition.
  • MENOMONEE -- seven squares south of Bridge, runs from foot Fifth avenue westward to city limits.
  • MIDDLE -- in Shawtown, runs north from Union.
  • NEWTON -- sixth south of Main.
  • NIAGARA -- four squares south of Bridge.
  • NINTH AVENUE -- runs south from Broadway to Chippewa River.
  • NORTH -- commences at Galloway, runs north to depot.
  • OAK -- two squares north of Madison, runs east to Chippewa River.
  • OMAHA -- runs east and west north of Balcom, Putnam & Simon's addition.
  • ORA STREET -- runs southeast, one west of Denison, A. D. Chappell's addition.
  • OTIS STREET -- runs west from Edith to Aurelia street, Chappell's addition, West Eau Claire.
  • OXFORD -- tenth south of Main.
  • OXFORD AVENUE -- between Second and Third avenues, runs from Mill and Spencer south to Lake.
  • PARK -- runs north and south from Garfield avenue to Thorp avenue, Eau Claire Lumber Company's eighth addition.
  • PARK PLACE -- runs west from Chippewa River to Park avenue, Eau Claire Lumber Company's eighth addition.
  • PEARL -- junction of Rowland and Gilbert avenue.
  • PIPER -- Shawtown, two west of Menomonee, runs south from Dell.
  • PLATT -- four squares north of Randall, runs west from Chippewa river.
  • PORTER -- runs south of Bartlett west of George street, B. Shute's addition to East Eau Claire.
  • PORTER AVENUE -- commences at Seaver and runs south next west of river.
  • PRICE -- next north of Randall.
  • PROSPECT -- commences at Talmadge near the east end of Kelsey, runs east.
  • PUTNAM AVENUE -- second east of Barstow, runs north from Galloway.
  • QUARRY -- Shawtown, runs westward from Menomonee.
  • RANDALL -- seven squares north of Bridge, runs west from Chippewa river to Half Moon Lake.
  • RIVER -- (east side), commences near the junction of Eau Claire and Chippewa rivers, runs north to Oxford and Gilbert avenue.
  • RIVER -- (north side), next to the Chippewa River.
  • RODERICK AVENUE -- runs north from Highland avenue, between Lee and Roderick streets, Sherwin & Barland's addition.
  • ROWLAND -- seventh south of Main.
  • RUSK -- runs from the Chippewa river to Second avenue, five squares north of Bridge.
  • SEAVER -- third south of Main.
  • SECOND -- is two squares west of Mappa and runs north from Platt.

  • SUMMER -- runs north and south, one east of McGraw.
  • SUMMIT -- is next south of Elm, in Putnam & Simon's addition.
  • TALMADGE -- is the fifth east of Barstow.
  • THIRD -- is three squares west of Mappa, and runs north from Platt.
  • THIRD AVENUE -- runs from Fulton and Mill south to the Chippewa River.
  • THORP -- commences at the Chippewa River, runs southeast to Farwell.
  • UNION -- is next north of Bridge, and runs west from Third avenue.
  • UNION -- Westville or Shawtown, is next north of Dell.
  • VINE -- is next north of Platt.
  • WALNUT -- is three north of Platt.
  • WARD -- is in Westville or Shawtown, and runs south from Dell, near city limits.
  • WASHINGTON -- eighth south of Main.
  • WATER -- is six squares south of Bridge.
  • WEST -- is in Westville or Shawtown, and runs north from Dell.
  • WHIPPLE -- is three squares west of Mappa and runs north from Chestnut to Platt.
  • WILCOX -- runs south from Newton to Rowland, second west of River street.
  • WILLIAM -- is next north of Madison, and runs east from the Chippewa River.
  • WILSON -- is between Walnut and Cedar, and runs northwest from Sixth.
